The garden is that little piece of world we claimed as our own. There, we can isolate ourselves, and create a personal kingdom filled with our dreams and desires. The garden reflects who we are.
Charlotte Bouckaert and Steve Salembier are the engineers of our imagination. Together, they explore how the world’s gardens combine to shape a new landscape, ultimately changed by the people who live in it.
Through models, photographs and projections, the duo creates a live universe, inspired by the artist Monet. The world slowly takes shape around music by composer Thomas Smetryns, and musicians Jakob Ampe and Benjamin Dousselaere
We start off at Monet’s garden in Giverny, and the associated series of paintings called Les Nymphéas. Monet, one of the founders of impressionism, was the first to break away from studios and to deliberately choose nature as his place to paint. He wrote: “Somewhere in between purple and green, there lies the colour that connects everything”.
